5 x Best Restaurants in Weligama, Sri Lanka

Looking for the best restaurants in Weligama? Weligama in the southern province of Sri Lanka has become a widely popular location for travelers, surfers and digital nomads from around the world. The town is big enough to fit plenty of trendy restaurants, cafés and surf shops, but is at the same time a laid back place thanks to its long and surfer-friendly beach. In this blog post I have written down the best restaurants in Weligama bay, rated by price, wi-fi speed, vegan-friendliness and much more.

Tips! Close to Weligama you will find Mirissa, a smaller town with plenty of great restaurants as well. Make room for one or two days in Mirissa on your travel route through Sri Lanka.

Note: The Weligama restaurants listed below serve western inspired food. Weligama also offers many great local restaurants serving traditional Sri Lankan food. The Sri Lankan cuisine is great, with their fried rice, dhal curry and roti, to name a few. There are restaurants serving Sri Lankan food all over the city center. Head to the Weligama Bus Station and you will find plenty.

Hangtime is a hostel, restaurant and yoga place just by the beach. At their rooftop terrace, Hangten rooftop, you have a view of the entire Wligama bay. Sit in their relaxed sofa beds and enjoy everything from yummy breakfast to late dinner. Their coffee is made from locally produced, handcrafted Ceylon coffee beans and tastes delicious. They even say they have the best barista coffee in Weligama (I can neither confirm nor deny). Their food is a bit cheaper than the cafés mentioned above, but equally delicious. The place has a chill hostel vibe with plenty of backpackers joined together.
